Windscreen and Headlight Repair...
It is all too easy for stones and other
debris to hit your windscreen or headlight causing minor damage to
these components.
When this happens they cause what is known as a star break, when
these stars and tiny cracks appear they will increase in size over
time causing interference to the drivers vision, particularly at
night or in the rain.
These star breaks are a MOT failure and this problem must be
rectified immediately in order for a vehicle to pass its test.

Are windscreen repairs acceptable for the MOT
test?
Yes. It is covered in section 6.1 of the test manual.
I have heard that you cannot carry out repairs
in front of the driver?
Repairs are allowed in this area, however, caution must be expressed
if the repair is in the drivers immediate area of vision.
Will my insurance pay for the repair?
On fully comprehensive policies almost every insurance company will
pay for the repair but they will charge an excess if the windscreen
is replaced.
How long do I have to wait before I can drive
the car?
The car can be driven immediately after the repair is completed.
How strong is the repair?
The repair is actually stronger than the undamaged glass.
Is the windscreen repair permanent?
Yes
Is the repair invisible?
No, there maybe a slight mark but if you did not know where the
damage was you would be very unlikely to be able to find the mark
after repair.
Is it true that old damage cannot be repaired?
Most breaks can be repaired with total success. If the damage is
showing a milky discolouration than this cannot be made clear again.
How long can you leave the damage before it
needs to be repaired?
The sooner the damage is repaired the better the chance of making a
perfect repair.
